Now, at year-end, holiday shipments contribute significantly to Eagle’s activity.  Christmas trees and decorations, despite shortages, have arrived and are on display throughout the island.  Holiday merchandise is on store shelves and food for seasonal celebrations is headed to grocery stores and restaurants.  

Eagle Logistics has evolved to become a dominant freight and logistics provider in Puerto Rico.  It handles large volumes of food shipments to the island, and a  growing number of shippers of non-food items including restaurant supplies, construction materials and retail goods.

Most of the products that Eagle Logistics Systems brings into Puerto Rico moves through its state-of-the-art Jacksonville, FL warehouse. The 55,000 sq. ft. facility just received, again, its AIB certificate with a 970/1000 score, well above the minimum required score of 700.

Restaurants in Puerto Rico have been hit hard by the Covid-19 crisis. With travel restrictions and stringent limits on inside dining, their sales plummeted. Many adapted by ramping up pickup and delivery operations. However, the predicament was much tougher for hotel restaurants, which usually cannot replace lost dine-in revenue with to-go orders.

Like everyone, we’re eager to see 2020 in the rear-view mirror. It’s been a crazy year of disruptions—with plant closings, reshuffled pickups, carrier bankruptcies, driver shortages, and more. Then, with the holiday retail season approaching, the U.S. economy surged, business inventories hit all-time lows, and importers faced unprecedented bottlenecks.

When Puerto Rico was on lock-down this summer, we couldn’t see many of our customers or prospective customers. But the pandemic has made us stronger. We have intensified our efforts to not only stay in touch but also to expand Eagle’s strength in LTL and consolidation for full loads of both reefer and dry. 

Because transporting food is a major focus for all AJC Group companies, food is a key part of AJC Cares outreach programs, too. Every year, with help from our vendors, we supply over 80,000 pounds of proteins to feed 6,000 in 143 shelters. And the AJC Group has joined with global companies like PepsiCo, Tyson and Starbucks to support Feed the Children’s worldwide activities.
